A Week of Simple Bentos

I’ve managed to pack lots more lunches this summer than I was planning to. We’re on our fourth week of summer already, and I’m currently packing my second week of Andrew lunches. But even those two weeks off have been really nice.

He’s at dinosaur camp this week, and I’ve challenged myself to make a different dino lunch every day. I’m having way too much fun! But he told me on Monday that he had the coolest lunch in the cafeteria. :) Yay!

Here I’m sharing lunches from one of our last few weeks of school, but look out for dinosaur overload soon!

Enjoy! And as always, please let me know if you have any questions!

Simple Bentos // Superheroes & #PlanetBox

This was a quick Superhero lunch for Andrew on a Monday morning. I always know he’ll love these sandwiches. I bought these cutters a few years ago at  Williams-Sonoma and I check often to see if they’re back in stock, but all they have now are the Star Wars cutters. You can find this Marvel set on Amazon, but they’re asking $50 – highway robbery! So I looked on Ebay and there’s a set listed for $75. Insanity! If you’re looking for something more reasonable, I think this shop on Etsy looks super cute. I may order the Flash cutter. Andrew would be thrilled!

The rest of the lunch included raspberries, oranges and chocolate Avengers snacks all packed in a crowd favorite, the PlanetBox.

Simple Bentos // 4 Up

This little divided box is one of my favorites for busy mornings. Anyone can find something to put into four separate boxes, am I right?  This day I filled Caroline’s with carrots and purple grapes, a heart shaped cup of cinnamon Chex and two stacked mini car ham sandwiches.

Simple Bentos // CuteZcute Cat

Andrew’s lunch was equally simple. I stamped a cat sandwich, and added some Scooby bones, carrots and raspberries. It was all packed in the Lunchbots Duo.

Simple Bentos // Superstar

This was the day of Andrew’s preschool performance. He was a little nervous about singing on stage with everyone so I wanted to remind him that he’s my superstar! I made a star shaped turkey sandwich with a shooting star baran, a star shaped fruit strip, strawberries and carrots and spicy corn sticks from our NatureBox.  So cute and his performance was adorable!

Simple Bentos // #Yumbox Flowers

Yumbox for Caroline! She had ham rollups, yogurt, strawberries, crackers and fruit strings. I topped the crackers with cheesy summer flowers! :)

I follow Yumbox on Instagram and it looks like they’re coming out with new shapes and colors this summer! I’m SO excited. I’ve wanted a more girly color box for Caroline but didn’t really want to order another just the same as this green one, but if I can get one with different compartments then sign me up! You can sign up on their website to know as soon as they’re available. They were wait listed at the beginning of school last year so don’t wait too long!

Happy lunch packing!

xoxo

Simple Bentos // April 28 – May 8

Y’all, we’re down to our very last week of school!

I am both thrilled and terrified. Ha!

If you’re looking for a little bit of lunch inspiration for your last few days of school, here you go. I have to say I feel like I’ve lost steam with the creative lunch packing these last few days, but they’re still cute and the kids love ’em anyway.

Simple Bento Lunches // Personalized

Andrew had a cute little lunch just for him this Monday. He had a cut up turkey dog, cinnamon bread in a flower shaped cup, carrots, a handful of purple grapes and a few cheerios. I included two dipping cups with ketchup and dressing. He loves finding his initials in his lunchbox!

Simple Bentos // Hello Kitty Sandwich

Caroline took this adorable lunch packed in our Lunchbots Duo. I cut her ham sandwich using the animal shape from the CuteZCute set and topped it with a Hello Kitty piece. The bottom container held green grapes and sliced strawberries and a heart shaped cup with Cheerios. I added a few Hello Kitty picks as well.

Simple Bentos // Goodbyn Dinosaurs

This lunch was completely directed by Andrew and it was kind of a mess. Ha! He ended up with shredded wheat, peanut butter celery, a sliced egg and strawberries in the Goodbyn container. He then decided it needed dinosaurs so we topped it with a happy dino topper and a flag. Then at the last minute he decided he wanted leftover pizza in his thermos so it was a big lunch and he didn’t eat much of it. Sometimes I think having TOO much food can overwhelm him.

Simple Bentos // Butterfly in an #EasyLunchbox

This little butterfly lunch for Caroline was just adorable! I added giant sprinkles to the butterfly wings and used carrot sticks for the antennae. The other containers of this Easy Lunchbox held Cheerios and raspberries with a mini bumblebee pick. So cute!

Simple Bentos // Texas Pride

I packed a sandwich for Andrew too. This Texas cutter is one of my favorites! Our babysitter gave it to us, and I just love it! It splits the sandwich into pieces and I added the star on top. But I can’t find it online anywhere. :( I also included a star shaped cup filled with raspberries and the other two cups from the Yubo set included yogurt and spicy corn sticks from our NatureBox snacks.

Simple Bentos // Cinco De Mayo Style

Ole! This little Mexican-style lunch was so fun for Cinco De Mayo! It was all packed in our Laptop Lunches box. I divided one of the big compartments with two silicone cups and filled them with corn and black beans. The other big container held tortilla chips and homemade guac. I added a little “fiesta” to sliced watermelon and tossed in a few peanut butter bites I made over the weekend using this recipe. I LOVED them but the kids were kind of meh about them.

Simple Bentos // Spiderman Style

Andrew’s been begging for superhero sandwiches for almost every lunch lately. This day I decided to go with the Spiderman theme. This lunch was packed in our Lunchbots Trio. He had two Spiderman stamped sandwiches, a star cup holding Avengers chocolate crackers, sliced cucumbers, stripey apples and a dots cup for dipping. I included a blue spider which Andrew loved!

Simple Bentos // Hello Kitty

How adorable is this? I LOVE making a Hello Kitty sandwich for Caroline.  I again used our CuteZCute cutter to make the kitty cat and added a little bow. She also had sliced apples and a heart cup of Cheerios. The Hello Kitty picks can be found here. It was all packed in the Duo.

Simple Bentos // Mini Box Preschool Style

Caroline had a tiny little lunch this day. It was packed in this darling two-tier panda box. The bottom layer held  watermelon and ham slices. On the top, a tiny flower cup held yogurt covered raisins next to a handful of  goldfish. It wasn’t quite enough food so I included a Plum smoothie. She loves these!

Simple Bentos // Superheroes

Andrew had yet another superhero lunch. This one was packed in our other panda box. The bottom layer held ham roll-ups in a silicone cup and more Avengers crackers. The top layer held watermelon and cucumber slices. I included a few superhero rings to jazz it up.

I have TWO lunches left to pack for this school year. Andrew will need lunch for a week or two of summer camps, but other than that I have the summer off!

I’ll be back with the last weeks of school lunches for y’all soon.

Enjoy!

Simple Bentos // April 14 – April 24

We’re heading in to the homestretch folks. Can you believe it’s almost MAY? Our last month of school is upon us. Are you counting down your lunch packing days too? :)

Here are our simple bento lunches from the last two weeks.

April 14, 2014

Simple Bento Lunches // #Goodbyn Strawberry Style

So I’m loving our Goodbyn these days. It turns out it’s really pretty easy to pack. Andrew had ham roll-ups with ketchup in a dipping cup, Shredded Wheat, strawberries and mini carrots, and a strawberry yogurt granola bar. I went with the strawberry theme and added a food pick and a smiley strawberry baran.

Simple Bento Lunches // Lock & Lock Bunnies

Andrew’s lunch was packed in the lock & lock box. I used colorful silicone cups to brighten it up. He had raspberries, bunny snacks, peanut butter cracker sandwiches, a few ham roll-ups and a bunny cheese topper. He was NOT happy about the cheese and it was the only thing left in the box after school.

Simple Bento Lunches // Preschool Style

Caroline’s little lunch was super simple. She had pretzel squares, yogurt covered raisins in a mini flower cup, bunny cheese, raspberries on a bunny pick, and Plum Kids fruit & veggie shredz which Caroline loves. It was packed in this little flat box from BentoUSA. It’s a great box for little ones!

April 17, 2014

Simple Bento Lunches // #Yumbox Bunnies

This was Caroline’s last Easter lunchbox. I love these little bunny sandwich stampers. It’s a cute set with flowers and bears too. With the sandwiches she also had Pirates Booty, shredded carrots, yogurt covered raisins, raspberries and fresh mozzarella bites. It was all packed in the Yumbox.

Simple Bento Lunches // #LaptopLunches Spring Sandwich

Andrew’s last Easter lunch was really cute too. He had a full turkey and mustard sandwich cut to triangles, Shredded Wheat, yogurt with giant colorful sprinkles and a Go Go Squeez pouch. It was all packed in our Laptop Lunchbox. I added a little butterfly baran sheet to the sandwich and Caroline tried to take it for her lunch. Ha!

April 21, 2014

Simple Bento Lunches // Lego Box Bento

We were a little overrun with Easter eggs last week so I decided to use one in Andrew’s lunch on Monday. He had turkey roll-ups with a yellow Lego box of ketchup for dipping, raspberries in a silicone cup, carrots in a mini Lego box and a Spiderman egg full of Avengers style chocolate crackers. I added our Superhero rings to jazz it up and packed it all in the big Lego box.

Simple Bento Lunches // #Lunchbots Trio

Caroline’s springy lunch was packed in the Lunchbots Trio. I thought it was so cute. She had very nicely swirled ham roll-ups and a sliced cheese stick, both packed in flower cups with a little Chex cereal for filler. I also added some whole grain crackers (which she didn’t like at all) and red grapes. There’s a tiny baran sheet keeping the crackers separate from the grapes.

Simple Bento Lunches // #PlanetBox Rover

This was my favorite from the week’s lunches. Andrew had some ham spirals with a winking eye, cantaloupe which he was SO excited about, peanut butter celery, with a green froggy, bread sticks, a strawberry and leftover jelly beans. He loved it too! It was all packed in our PlanetBox which is one of my very favorite boxes. It’s so versatile and I put it in the dishwasher. :)

April 24, 2014

Simple Bento Lunches // #Yumbox for a preschooler

I went all out and made Caroline a cheese quesadilla Thursday morning and she didn’t even touch it! She eats them at home all the time so I was really surprised. She also left behind her cute Swiss cheese flowers. My kids and their rejection of cheese is breaking my heart. I could LIVE on cheese, y’all. But she ate all the crackers, carrots, grapes and cereal in her Yumbox. I cut and stamped the cheese using the flower from this set.

Simple Bento Lunches // Transportation Sandwiches

I was a little more successful with Andrew’s lunch. I made turkey sandwiches stamped with these transportation cutters. On the top tier of this Lego box I sent Scooby bones, raspberries, sliced cucumbers and ranch dressing for dipping in a striped cup. He ate every bite!

I love opening an empty lunchbox!
